Outcomes

The scoping meeting will focus on possible collaboration/cooperation across the Mediterranean basin for operational provision of climate information at seasonal scales(and tentatively beyond). It is mainly organized to allow in depth discussions on the scientific issues relevant for potential RCOF(s) covering partially or totally the Mediterranean basin. Also organizational and practical issues will be addressed

The meeting will start with two sessions including a series of short targeted oral presentations about the Mediterranean climate and predictability features which may condition the design of a RCOF for the region. The first 4 sessions will be more devoted to scientific issues, whereas the following 6 sessions will mainly focus on organizational issues and other prospects. At each session some particular aspect of the future RCOF(s) will be discussed. Sessions are intended to provide agreed answers to the question proposed for each session. Each session will be introduced by a chair that will be also responsible for moderating discussions. A rapporteur will prepare a short summary of conclusions corresponding to the session.

The discussion sessions would ideally allow reaching consensus among all participants on some aspects of the future RCOF(s). A short document compiling conclusions from each session would be the conceptual basis for the future RCOF(s). These conclusions will be sent to the President of RA I and RA VI, the RA I and RA VI WG on Climate matters, the PR's of the potentially interested NMHS and the corresponding RCCs.
